SHANLING SCD3.3 CD/SACD Player
Pairs well with
The Shanling SCD3.3 is a flagship reference-grade SACD player and digital hub designed to bridge digital precision with analog warmth. It combines a proprietary top-loading disc mechanism with a discrete R2R DAC and a dedicated tube output stage.
SHANLING SCD3.3 CD/SACD Player
Disc System: Uses a manual top-loading drive with a high-precision HD850 laser system and a dedicated CD puck for maximum stability. It supports SACD, standard CD, and MQA-CD formats.
DAC Architecture: Features a 2nd-generation discrete R2R ladder DAC built with 212 ultra-precision 0.01% resistors. This 24-bit module uses a 19-bit ladder with 4-bit compensation to provide a smooth, natural sound.
Analogue Stage: Employs a pair of matched 12AT7 vacuum tubes. Unlike some “tube buffers,” this is an actual tube output stage designed to add rich harmonics and a holographic sound signature to both RCA and XLR outputs.
Build & Interface: Housed in a 10kg CNC-machined aluminum chassis (9.5mm thick) for vibration resistance. It features a 5-inch LG touchscreen for navigation and a dedicated window to view the glowing tube array.
The SCD3.3 is a highly flexible digital hub that can bypass its internal DAC to serve as a pure transport:
• 10-Mode I²S Output: Since there is no industry standard for I²S pinouts, the SCD3.3 includes an FPGA-assisted I²S output (via HDMI) with 10 selectable modes. This ensures compatibility with virtually any high-end external DAC on the market.
• True Native DSD Extraction: It can extract native DSD64 data directly from SACDs and send it as a raw stream to an external DAC via I²S or as DoP (DSD over PCM) via coaxial output.
• MQA-CD Full Decoder: It acts as a full MQA decoder, providing 4x unfolding for MQA-CDs to deliver maximum resolution from compatible discs.
The unit is not just a fixed-line source; it can serve as the primary control center for a power amplifier:
• Switchable Modes: You can toggle between a standard Line-out mode (fixed volume) and a Pre-amplifier mode (variable volume) through the touchscreen.
• Balanced Architecture: The differential fully balanced design uses premium op-amps like the OPA1612 and MUSES8920E alongside the tubes to maintain high current-rich output for demanding systems.
The top-loading mechanism is a reliability choice. By removing the motorized tray—a common failure point in older players—it uses a rigid, manual system with a precision-weighted magnetic puck to secure the disc and reduce read errors.
To minimize electrical noise, the SCD3.3 uses a “serious” power architecture normally found in separate components:
• Dual R30 Toroidal Transformers: It utilizes two 66W transformers to completely isolate the digital and analog power paths. An additional 15W module is used specifically for auxiliary functions.
• Ultra-Precision Resistors: The 24-bit R2R DAC module is constructed using 212 ultra-precision (0.01%) thin-film resistors, which are matched to ensure better linearity and lower noise than typical chip-based solutions.
Modern Connectivity & Interface
• Local Storage Playback: The front-panel USB-A port supports direct playback from Flash drives, HDDs, or SSDs. In this mode, the 5-inch touchscreen can display optional digital VU meters.
• Companion App Control: It integrates with the Shanling Eddict Player app, allowing you to browse your local file library or manage settings from your smartphone.
• High-Res Bluetooth: The receiver supports LDAC and aptX HD, enabling high-quality wireless streaming from phones or tablets directly into the tube-output stage.
