PRO-JECT X8 Evolution Turntable
Pairs well with
The Pro-Ject X8 Evolution takes a number of design cues from Pro-Ject's high end Xtension9 and Xtension10 models and presents them at a more affordable price point. Utilising Pro-Ject's 'True Balanced Connection ', the X8 is an outstanding entry into Pro-Ject's comprehensive line of turntables.
PRO-JECT X8 Evolution Turntable
The X8 is Pro-Ject's most affordable mass-loaded turntable yet. Positioned neatly between the X2 and Xtension 9, the X8 adopts and breaks down its bigger siblings' features to make mass-loaded high-end design principles more accessible than ever before.
Balanced audio connections are terrific for minimising noise from external interferences, and moving coil cartridges are themselves naturally balanced signal transducers, so introducing a balanced connector on Pro-Ject's higher end turntables makes sense. The vivid stereo imaging and inky black silences you can expect from 'True Balanced' are a true step forward for anyone who loves great sound.
The X8 offers a heavy, TPE damped mass-loaded platter precision lathed from a single aluminium block. The Xtension 9 and 10 didn't offer the ability to experiment with different mats because of the risk of over-damping when used with those models' vinyl-topped platter. The X8 allows you to experiment with a broad range of materials to tailor the sound to your taste.
The chassis houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board which, combined with the convenient speed control board, delivers clean and stable power to the quiet-running motor. Switching speeds is controlled with the simple touch of a button.
The X8 B inherited the massive MDF chassis and the top-of-the-line Pro-Ject 9cc EVO carbon tonearm from its larger siblings. The height-adjustable X8 B features machined aluminium feet. The TPE damping technology in the feet effectively decouples the X8 B from the surface it is placed on. The feet are a great choice for a more budget orientated turntable as they are faster and easier to set up than magnetic feet on the X9/10, and also require less maintenance.
