MoFi Electronics MasterPhono Phono Preamplifier
Pairs well with
Created in collaboration with the revered audio engineer Peter Madnick, renowned for his exceptional contributions to the high-performance audio industry, the all-analogue MasterPhono preamplifier is a testament to his expertise. The mission behind the MasterPhono was unequivocal: to replicate the sonic integrity that characterizes the renowned MFSL vinyl reissues. Over a year of meticulous research, development, and prototyping was invested to meet this lofty goal.
MoFi Electronics MasterPhono Phono Preamplifier
One of the most remarkable aspects of the MasterPhono is its versatility. With separate inputs and balanced as well as single-ended outputs, this preamplifier offers a multitude of user-configurable settings, all intuitively accessible via the front panel. The analogue meters on the front panel embody the true essence of MasterPhono's analogue heritage. Notably, a USB input opens doors to future features and software updates, ensuring a forward-looking experience.
Current-mode (transimpedance) input stage, a fundamentally different approach to MC phono amplification.
Most phono stages load your cartridge against a fixed resistance. The MasterPhono presents a near-zero impedance input instead, which automatically optimizes cartridge damping, eliminates the guesswork of manual loading, and removes a major source of noise and distortion before it ever enters the signal path.
The result is what a great MC cartridge is actually capable of: tight, defined bass, an open and natural midrange, and transient dynamics that feel immediate and unforced. Less coloration. More record. No manual loading adjustments. The near-short circuit input automatically damps your cartridge correctly — regardless of its internal impedance. Plug in and play.
LOWER NOISE FLOOR
Operating at low impedance makes the circuit largely immune to cable capacitance and common RF interference, so what you hear is the signal, not the environment around it.
HIGHER ACCURACY
By avoiding high-voltage gain at the input stage, the MasterPhono introduces less distortion at the point where it matters most — keeping the signal linear from stylus to output.
OPTIMIZED FOR LOW-OUTPUT MC
Current-mode amplification is purpose-built for the low-impedance, low-output moving coil cartridges where the most musical information lives.
PRECISE INPUT FLEXIBILITY
Choose between standard signal input ("Voltage Input") via RCA & XLR or "Current input" tailored for low source-impedance phono cartridges, utilizing "Trans-impedance dynamic loading.
PERFECT LOADING
Find the perfect match for your cartridge with 10 switchable impedance loading adjustments, including a “Custom” via RCA plug on rear panel.
DUAL FUNCTION VU METERS
Dual meters can be used for monitoring or calibration of cartridge azimuth.
