Ortofon Cadenza Bronze MC Cartridge

Orotofon is one of the worlds most trusted brands for turntable cartridges - from DJ's and radio stations to Audiophiles and Music lovers. When moving up in the world of vinyl playback it is nearly always going to end up being a Moving Coil cartridge that gives the performance leap above a certain price point. The Ortofon Cadenza range are proof of this. The 2M Moving Magnet range represent the best value to performance with maximum compatibility.  The first of the MC ranges is the Quintet range which is a taste of what MC carts can do... then there is the Cadenza range - taking over from the now defunct Kontrapunkt range. The Cadenza cartridge range is where the benefits of an MC cartridge are readily apparent with the extra detail, smoothness, soundstage and texture that MC carts are renowned for.

Cadenza Bronze model is using a Replicant 100 stylus and a conical aluminium cantilever.

The Cadenza Bronze model is using a Replicant 100 stylus with an aluminium cantilever. The stylus tip radius is r/R 5/100 µm. The Replicant 100 stylus sounds so quiet in the groove that it lets the Cadenza Bronze dig out more details and coupled to the Aluminium cantilever a beautiful warm, tube like saturated mid range that brings body and presence which is noticeable especially on vocals, bass and brass. The Cadenza Bronze also raises the depth of the soundstage even further behind the speakers ensuring a clarity and sense of space to balance the warmth.

With a complex stylus shape like the Replicant 100, there must be special attention paid to positioning the diamond in the groove.

The Stylus Rake Angle (SRA - see figure) is very important to the performance of the Replicant 100 stylus, and the long contact surface (the sharp edge) of the diamond should be almost perpendicular to the record surface when viewed from the side.  The angle between the record surface and the cantilever is close to 23 degrees when SRA is 90 degrees.

The Cadenza Bronze provides a fuller, warmer sound signature than either the red or the blue yet maintains a surprising amount of micro detail, air and texture to the overall presentation.

Performers are clearly defined, tonal balance is evenly reproduced, and dynamic contrasts are faithfully recreated. The touch of warmth that Ortofon have infused into the design, results in a cartridge with an easy going nature, which invites a person to listen for hours on end... " : POSITIVE FEEDBACK ISSUE 51

Each of the five Cadenza Series cartridges has its own individual sonic expression, and all five models together represent the ensemble of five classic variations:

  • MC Cadenza Mono is a true mono cartridge for playing mono microgroove vinyl records
  • MC Cadenza Red delivers open, dynamic sound with a touch of warmth
  • MC Cadenza Blue adds more dynamics and resolution, sounds more open and reproduces more details
  • MC Cadenza Bronze adds even more details and resolution but in a very evenhanded way that pays respect to all elements
  • MC Cadenza Black is the best of everything, true to the groove with resolution and accurate insight into each recording
